Chemsex intervention training – Basic course (Online)

Recognizing the needs of trainees and to continue the success of the training course held in Ho Chi Minh City on January 14-15, 2021. From March 1 to 2, 2021, Center for Training and Research on Substance Abuse – HIV (CREATA-H) – Hanoi Medical University to organize an online training course “Chemsex Intervention Training (Basic course)” with the support of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) to respond to the highly complicated situation of Covid epidemic. The course took place with the aim of providing knowledge and skills about harm reduction interventions for customers using drugs during sex (Chemsex), especially those who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW). Speaking at the training session, Dr. Ramona Bhatia- representing CDC USA, shared that Chemsex is currently a hot topic and very concerned in Vietnam. Hoping that after the training session, the trainees could arm themselves with useful knowledge to serve and help the customers have a better life.

Attending the training course, there were 60 trainees from VAAC – Ministry of Health; Centers for disease control and prevention, community-based organizations (CBOs) from the provinces / cities of Hanoi, Hai Phong and Thai Nguyen such as CDC Hanoi, CDC Thai Nguyen, PAC Hai Phong, Hai Dang Social Enterprise, Cat Trang Group, Venus Group…

Our trainers shared knowledge about Chemsex, Chemsex screening tool, harm reduction intervention program, short intervention and referral service related to Chemsex. At the end of the session, the trainees participated in the role-play to practice proficiently the tool. Besides, the we also discussed with the participants about the future work plan, advantages and disadvantages, challenges that may be encountered, as well as solutions.
