Family-based therapy in treatment for youths with substance use disorders

December 23rd, 2021 was the last day of the 3-day online training workshop on “Family-based therapy in treatment for youths with substance use disorders”, which was organized and presented by the Vietnam-International Technology Transfer Center (V-ITTC), Hanoi Medical University (HMU); the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC); The Ministry of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs and the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City (UMP).

Day 2 and 3 of the online training workshop focused mainly on Central counseling skills and the Five phases of Family-based Therapy. Moreover, the instructing team of HMU and UMP had a chance to present a clinical case study and share some practical experiences in implementing Family-based Therapy in Vietnam.

Integrated with theoretical knowledge, the training course has created a lot of opportunities for about 50 participants to acquire and practice their counseling skills and work together within their assigned groups, and to receive a lot of comments from the instructing team. Hence, the trainees are able to apply Family-based Therapy to their current works and become more confident in working with youths with substance use disorders.
