Intervention training course for staff working in Methadone clinics – STAR-OM

On 10 and 11 June 2021, the Center for Training and Research on Substance Abuse – HIV (CREATA-H) has organized an intervention training course for staff working in substance addiction treatment in 2 Methadone clinics in Long Bien and Hai Ba Trung districts, Hanoi. The course is conducted as one of the main activities of the STAR-OM study framework, including: Screen, Treat and Retain meth-using people with Opioid use disorders at MMT clinics. The study has implemented from 2021 to 2024 and with the participant of 20 clinics in Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City.

MMT clinics in Long Bien and Hai Ba Trung districts, Hanoi are the two selected clinics to initiate the study. In the training course, health workers of the two facilities are provided with knowledge and practice concerning intervention such as Contingency Management (CM), Motivational Interview (MI), Group education, Matrix model, SMS and initial skills to conduct these types of intervention in the near future. All medical staff at 2 clinics have acquired a lot of skills, knowledge; especially, have had opportunities to share practical experiences in intervention and treatment field, and how to deal with challenging situations. At the end of the training course, learners felt confident to perform these activities at the facility.
