Online training course: “Common co-occurring disorders among people with substance use disorders” – Session 1

In the afternoon of March 31, 2022, the Vietnam-International Technology Transfer Center (V-ITTC), Hanoi Medical University successfully organized the first training session of the online training course, “Common co-occurring disorders among people with substance use disorders”.

At this first training session, having extensive experience in treating patients with psychological disorders and substance use disorders, Pham Thanh Luan, MD, MA –  Center for Training and Research on Substance Abuse – HIV and Nguyen Thanh Long, MD, MA – Department of Psychiatry of Hanoi Medical University shared some basic knowledge on co-occurring disorders and common co-occurring psychiatric disorders among patients with substance use disorders. The training course had the participation of more than 50 scholars who are doctors, medical staff, and psychotherapists of many medical centers from provinces and cities across the country.

 

The training course focused on the following key topics:

  • A general review of Co-occurring Disorders
  • Common co-occurring psychiatric disorders among patients with substance use disorders (Part 1)
  • A general review of some common assessment and treatment models for co-occurring psychiatric disorders and the advantages and disadvantages of each treatment model.
  • Real-life experiences and notes when evaluating and treating patients with co-occurring psychiatric illnesses.
  • Some basic principles and skills for counselors when working with patients with psychiatric disorders and substance use disorders.

Through the first training session, the Vietnam-International Technology Transfer Center (V-ITTC), Hanoi Medical University, and the lecturers have provided scholars with useful information and knowledge related to co-occurring psychiatric disorders among people with substance use disorders and different models of assessment and treatment of comorbidities.
