In two days from March 1 to 2, 2023, the International Technology Transfer Center on Substance Abuse in Vietnam (V-ITTC), Hanoi Medical University, in collaboration with the Sub-Department of Social Evils Prevention Hanoi successfully organized the training course on “Motivational Interviewing” and “Case Management” for 24 district-level social workers to implement the model of Social and Legal Assistance, Consultation, and Referral Services for People Who Use Drugs (PWUDs)” applying evidence-based interventions at the Nghia Tan, Chuong Duong, and Vinh Quynh districts.
With the participation of V-ITTC trainers, the training course provided opportunitíe for trainees to gain knowledge on drug addiction treatment counseling including basic counseling skills, motivational interview, stages of behavior changes of clients, and practices for handling some adverse situations. In addition, during the course, trainees had a chance to practice in groups, share and exchange practical experiences – difficulties and challenges, when working directly with clients and discuss solutions with V-ITTC trainers. At the end of the training session, the trainees completed a post-test to wrap up the course.
In the upcoming weeks of March, the V-ITTC research assistant team will go to the chosen research sites to invite and interview potential participants to participate in the model of Social and Legal Assistance, Consultation, and Referral Services for People Who Use Drugs”.
