Following up on the training courses to implement interventions in the study “Screen, test, treat and retain methamphetamine-using people with opioid use disorders at methadone maintenance treatment clinics (STAR-OM)” (R01DA050486), on December 21, 2022, Center for Training and Research on Substance Abuse – HIV (CREATA-H) of Hanoi Medical University collaborated with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City to organize a workshop to share experiences on urine testing for patients participating in the STAR-OM study.

The workshop was held online via Zoom with the participation of specialists from the intervention teams from Hanoi Medical University and the University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh city and lab technicians from methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) facilities implementing STAR-OM such as MMT facilities in the following districts: Hai Ba Trung, Dong Da, Tay Ho, Long Bien, Hoang Mai, District 6, Go Vap, District 8, District 10, and Tan Binh. The workshop provided an opportunity for the two groups of personnel to exchange experiences and challenges when working directly with patients and to discuss some of the ways to deal with difficult patients and adverse situations.

In these photos, the two groups of lab technicians from MMT facilities participating in the STAR-OM study in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are sharing typical cases of difficult patients who displayed non-cooperative behaviors when doing urine tests and discussing some of the effective ways they have done to support and motivate patients.
